AEC-EREP is the scientific part of the Africa-Europe Challenge comprehensive project, executed by the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Szent István University, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Work plan of the AEC-EREP will be executed by internationally acclaimed university and research institute experts as hydro-biologists, biologists and meteorologists, from different parts of the World.
As the scientific part of the AEC, the AEC-EREP focuses on the aquatic life and air pollution, by collecting water samples and measuring air quality during the whole programme. One of the main targets of the programme is to identify the effects of loads caused by the big rivers, large cities, seaports on the ecology of the coastal and farther sea areas, by the following elements:
1. Survey of the water quality changes (warming up, water pollution, inorganic, organic loads)
2. Survey of the air quality changes (air pollution, dust, CO2, NOx, organic loads, acid rain)
3. Survey of the changes in the sea life (bacteriological survey, phytoplankton, zooplankton composition, biodiversity, eutrophycation)
4. Survey of the waste loading (mechanical waste, inorganic, organic and dangerous waste).
Evaluation and processing of data would be done by collaborating of African and European universities and marine research institutions.

What is the speciality of this research programme?
Until now, there have never been such a high volume water sampling and analyzing research programme around the African continent. Beside water quality analysis, complex environmental status will be measured by observing quality of air, marine and coastal zoology and pollution of the environment. Data collection will be done by international standards with precise location system (GPS). The collected data should be a fundamental data base for the following analyzes.
